Nikon DSLR Camera Gear for sale

If I have my way, I will soon — for the first time since I was 14 years old — not have an SLR camera in my possession. Photography has been a part of my life since I was nine years old. And for the longest time I had an SLR with me practically everywhere I went. Just in case.

In high school my dream job would have been photographer for National Geographic. The combination of subject matter, journalism and creativity in the images the magazine presented had me in awe. I have other ideas these days about NatGeo and its colonialist lens, but at the time I aspired to the ability to see and make images like their photographers did.

I learned how to develop film and print photos in high school, which turned out to be a highly sought-after skill at the student paper at McGill, where I went after fleeing Grade 13. And that sort of set the tone and the direction for the rest of my life.

So I owe a lot to the SLR. From the Minolta XG-9 to the XE-5 to the X-700 to the Nikon D-70 to the D-7000, they’ve always been around. They were indispensible tools for whatever communicating or expressing I needed to do.

But I am selling it all because I haven’t used any of it in more than five years.

It’s not that I’ve stopped taking photos or that I no longer carry a camera with me at all times. It’s just that my camera is now my phone. And these days phone cameras are no joke. And replacing my DSLR with gear that could do a better job than my phone camera would cost in the order of tens of thousands of dollars. And… well… see above note about lack of use.

So I am hoping someone out there will want the glass for their own creative undertakings. And if they need a body to put behind the glass, a flash to light the scene, and cases to carry it all I’ve got that too.

As for me I will lament the end of an era for a bit.
