And so here it is. The bike shed. Not quite what we were thinking of but certainly working well and put in place for much much less than contemplated.
I had hoped to have one of these. But there’s no one in North America that sells them. So Irene and I went looking for a shed kit that might fit.
And we found one. Designed for suburban garbage. And it fits the space we have. And it fits two bikes. And it’s made in Canada. Of lovely, fragrant cedar. And they deliver. And the customer service was excellent.
There are some disadvantages.
- Because it’s made for garbage it’s not exactly designed to lock down tight. You can lock it, but it would take some jury rigging.
- The hinged lid is well-designed and functions well, but there’s a crossbar atop the front doors that makes using it kind of pointless. Again I’m sure it works well for garbage containers.
- It’s much easier to assemble properly if it’s not in a corner or up against a wall.
- It is exactly wide enough to fit 66″ long bikes. And deep enough to fit two adult bikes with the wider, mountain bike style handle bars.
@cmkl nothing in europe for this purpose?
