Myself, I’m downgrading Moody’s

That’s right internets. I’m rating them ‘negative’. I am earnestly and sincerely advising my friends family and blog readers to not buy their shares, not apply for jobs there and not buy anything from their bond rating stuff store. (I wonder what it would sell – little currency stuffy toys?).

Oh now there you go, Dalton. That wasn’t so hard was it?

You’re almost there, premier McGuinty. Just a few more items and we’ll have something to be proud of. Something that runs counter to the current of nastiness emanating from the PMO.

Gee wilikers but if you call that a balanced approach to defict reduction

I suspect you have a hard time standing upright. The McGuinty government released its budget and just so that they could put “everyone will feel some pain” in their talking points they put some of their planned cuts to the corporate tax rate on hold for a bit.

So I think I’ll write about the weather

Because there’s too much depressing stuff going on. Which isn’t to say that snow flurries tomorrow evening isn’t depressing enough. But at least there’s nothing to be done about it.

Don Drummond, meet Hugh Mackenzie

Then take your stupid report and chuck it. The CCPA has published a new hunk of PDF by economist Hugh Mackenzie which slices and dices the Drummond report’s fiscal forecast and portrays it as a crisis-invention tool. I hate PDFs too, but I think it’s important enough to have a look at it and see what they’re on about.

Full day kindergarten or… pointless tax breaks for profitable corporations

Economist Erin Weir digs up an interesting nugget about the results of the McGuinty government’s changes to corporate tax structure in the Drummond Report. The government claimed that adding HST to hitherto untaxed financial services and business-to-business transactions would nullify any tax savings brought by cutting the basic corporate tax rate.

Don Drummond will propose eliminating full day kindergarten

I will get to some evidence as to why killing the still-not-completely-implemented full day kindergarten in english public school boards is a really bad idea. I swear. But first, some invective.

Wolf Lake Wednesday

Keep Wolf Lake's forest reserve designation It’s late but here’s my week’s contribution to Wolf Lake Wednesday. Friends of Temagami, Earthroots and no doubt a bunch of other organizations and individuals are trying to pressure the Ontario government to take Wolf Lake in the Chiniguchi waterway off the table for mining and logging.

Dalton McGuinty is no friend of the working class

So after a remarkably long strike at York University, the Ontario government announces it’s going to legislate the 3300-odd teaching assistants, research assistants and contract lecturers – members of CUPE 3903 – back to work.

Smitherman to seniors: “See? I almost care”

George Smitherman seems to have gone from tough talker to loose cannon. He’s always been provocative, but offering to wear an adult diaper? Please.

The Ontario Parks backcountry reservation system must change

The backcountry reservation system for Ontario’s bigger parks is insane. It encourages abuse, requires exceptional long-term planning, and yet makes it impossible to plan. It must change. This is a rant about why.
