Dear commercial media quit using “union boss” to describe our leaders
I know y’all are into brevity and everything. I’m with you. But is the pain of adding three extra characters to your titles and content really so onerous that you have to completely misrepresent the relationship between someone who is the head of a union and her or his members?
La Presse wants to drop its paper edition by 2013
So much so they’re planning on giving all their subscribers a free iPad. This is quite stunning. I had fully expected newspapers to sink to the bottom, their content producers chained to the printing machinery. But La Presse plans to eliminate its print edition within the next two years.
Settlement at Le Journal de Montréal
This is bad. CSN members at Le Journal de Montréal settled their two year lockout against Québecor. And by all measures, it looks like they got creamed. I’m not at all close to this strike but it seems like the company has the same approach it had against CUPE members who were locked out for a year at the Journal de Québec.
Conventional media as ‘content farms’
Google has apparently made a move in its mouse/mouse trap battle with the search engine optimization industry. This time they’re targeting content farms – websites that dress up the same content in different web page templates, on different domain names in the name of earning advertising revenue and boosting their Google page rank.
Stephen Harper campaigning in a bubble
Apparently Stephen Harper is campaigning in a bubble. I’m exposing my naiveté here, but this is a new bit of lingo to me. Not to the Hill press corps or, I would hope, this info nugget would be front page rather than in the marginalia of the Globe’s see-how-hip-we-are web 1.1 coverage.
To Macleans: veterinary care is not health care
When print journalism dies I won’t miss Macleans. Not after reading this crap, anyway. Hey Macleans: veterinary care is not like health care.
CBC Ottawa news needs a new mandate: no more crime shorts
Crime crime crime crime crime and more crime.
Enough with Conrad Black on the front page already
It’s not that I like Conrad Black or have any sympathy for him. I don’t. And I don’t care if his public humiliation ends soon or never. I am just really sick of reading about him on the front page all the time.
