Yoga is excellent. Who knew?

I went to my first proper yoga class this evening. And I loved it.

A bike ride

Not much of one, to be fair. Blackburn Hamlet and back – 53km all in. But considering I had to brush the cobwebs off the spokes of my road bike, I think it was a reasonable one. Yes, it’s been a long time since I got on my bike and rode, sans child.

Oh and speaking of awesome friends, Laurie Kingston

Looking at three years’ of clean scans after being diagnosed with metatstatic breast cancer. Author, mom, advocate, blogger. I have endless admiration for Laurie.

I am very proud to call Evan Thornton my friend

I’ve known him since 1992, but I’m seeing a different side of him these days — medical pioneer. It makes me all the more proud of being his friend.

I’m changing jobs. What can I tell you?

After ten years working for the Canadian Union of Public Employees national office as their web wierdo (Senior Officer, New Media) I am moving on. October 23 will be my last day. Then, on November 2nd, I’ll be starting at the Public Service Alliance of Canada national office as their web wierdo (Communications officer, New Media).

Not a travel maven

I am finding it really difficult to deal with being unable to speak with anyone here.

Hair: does it change the world?

Me with short hair I just got my hair cut off after about 20 years of having long hair and a few years of having freaky hair before that. Truth be told, I let my hair grow because I just didn’t know what to do with it and the world of fashion left me behind so long ago that it wasn’t even visible on the horizon. (Until I was 40 I was pretty much convinced that Doc Maartens were the only type of shoe on the planet).

Barry Doyle

I got horrible news from a co-worker. My colleague Barry Doyle has died. It’s blindingly, mind-numbingly, staggeringly sudden and as unexpected as possible. I’m still processing it and I have no information about much of anything except that all my co-workers are reeling and in pain. My heart goes out to Andrea, Tallie and Jamie.

Halloween: a study in contrast

The clips keep the fuzz from tickling her face Halloween is quite a different affair in our new neighbourhood, compared to our old one.

Things looking up on the dad front

I phoned my dad tonight. He had another hormone injection Tuesday and was meant to phone me afterwards because they were also going to test his PSA and what not. I didn’t hear from him, but that doesn’t mean anything with dad.

House is sold

1125 North River Road is sold. Thanks to dianeandjen.com

I am pleased to report that our house is sold. Wouldn’t recommend owning two houses at once. Nope. Can’t say we got our ideal price, but we can’t be all that fussy.

Unto the salt mines we return

Comparatively speaking, a left-wing malcontent such as myself should be overjoyed to be working full time for an organization that is universally unloved among the right wing pundits of both amateur and professional variety.

So did you miss me?

Don’t feel like you have to answer that. After being down for a few days while my phone service transferred from old to new house, I am back. Don’t have a phone yet, so I will need more attention from Bell, which could mean breaking my DSL connection but who knows.

Moving is chaos

Edgar has been hiding behind the furnace for two days now. The dust bunnies in our old house have started to form a soccer league. There’s a heap of cardboard, bubble wrap and paper in the chasm that is our living room. We’re moved. Mostly.

An axe blaze on life

For the last while I feel like I’ve been bashing through forest with no trail, trying to get somewhere important – or at least back to the path. My life has been quite full of Mallory, packing, purging, trying to sell our house and fix up our new one that I haven’t posted in weeks.
