Welcome to Toronto, mister president

Alrighty then. That’s another website to get redone then. Stuck my hand up once again at the wrong time and I am now overseeing the redesign/reengineering of calm.ca. In truth, it had to be me. After all, it’s what I do for a living and I am the president of the organization. Fortunately the CALM [...]

Golfy is at the car doctor and she’ll be fine

damageSo will I. I rear-ended someone on Highway 410 on my way to my dad’s place. There were no injuries but I’m pretty shaken up about it. And because I hit the woman’s car, I get the ticket, the premium hikes and everything.

That day flew by

It started off with Mallory’s first soccer practice and my first coaching experience. Then a bike tour of Brewer Park, a calamity, a teachable moment, some quiet time, a meal and finally some minor carpentry.

Gil Scott-Heron has died

This is a terrible loss to music and humanity in general. And at only 62. Such a mind. Such a wit. Such a talent. Tormented and plagued by addiction problems, but so incisive and funky with his words and his music.

Here. Have a flower

Tulip. Glorified Onion Where on earth did the weekend go? Okay, I blew 4.5 daylight hours biking today. But still. I just turned around and boom. Irene and I were on the couch, tonight, watching TV.

There is no bad weather. Only inadequate preparation

Of course sometimes the weather is bad enough that the best preparation is to be prepared to stay indoors all day. And I was prepared to do that, today. Life, unfortunately, had other plans.

Troubled evening

Some things troubling my mind this evening…

On the other hand

I got to spend the evening with a dear friend. We talked about the election, the joy of having children, the challenges of being their parents as well as their advocates, past loves and past lives and the strange places life takes you.

Are there any Dailyites out there?

There’s plans afoot to have a celebratory drinks and dinner for the 100th anniversary of the McGill Daily. I got a message on the Dailyites listserv about it, and it’s on the Facebook group (need to be logged in before clicking) but if you’re not part of either of those and have some sentimental attachment to them crazy days or you’re only recently escaped or if you’re still there, you might want to check it out.

Mallory has a pair of pink Converse All Star Hightops

pheasantShe said it was the highlight of her day. In my defense I will say that I also dragged her around the farm and through the woods on a toboggan, showed her the sap buckets, did colouring, played with Lego, played Go-Fish, fed and cuddled her too. But yes, the highlight of the day was a trip to the Orangeville Mall to get her some shoes.

Trip to Grandpa Mike’s part one: arrival

Mallory and I took off for her grandpa’s this morning in a disorganized flurry of activity. We made it here by late afternoon, despite stopping for lunch and an extended gas stop while I tried to remote reboot my server with my iPhone. Petty frustration #1: we have a power inverter for the car. Why can we not keep it in the car? My laptop battery was dead and I had no way to plug it in.

The funniest thing I saw on the Internet today

Lame excuse for a post but there you go.

There’s something wierd going on on my server

Normally, your average reasonably well maintained Linux server can go for a year or so without a reboot. I’ve had to reboot mine three times in the past two weeks. Something is amiss. But what?

Little climber

Mallory climbing the rock wall at MEC's Ottawa store I did not know they let kids Mallory’s age climb the rock wall at MEC’s Ottawa store. I was thrilled to see they did. I hadn’t checked before because as someone who was never much for climbing trees, rocks or that sort of thing, it didn’t occur to me that it would be something fun for Mallory to do. But as I was walking past I saw a child, younger than Mallory, suiting up.

Mallory’s back in the saddle again

We had a great day, today. Mallory had her cousin staying with us so she and some other cousins hung out for the morning. Details are unclear, but there was a doughnut involved.
