Bike streets. Cars are guests. The bike is right. This BBC News item makes me sigh: Why is cycling so popular in the Netherlands?.
Of course, the bicycle is the primary mode of transport for 31 per cent of Netherlanders (compared with 48.5 who use cars first) but still the difference that has made in how cyclists are treated on roads is remarkable.
In Canada I’m just grateful to scrape my way down Bank Street every day without being doored, honked or yelled at for merely existing. I hasten to add that most days I have nothing but gratitude for motorists who take accident avoidance seriously.
