Crèpes – my fabulous birthday
So to cap off a lovely birthday, Irene Mallory and I had a lovely meal at Da Sergio and then went home for presents. The day actually began with presents too. All my presents were lovely, and Irene went above and beyond with the present pictured here.
See sometimes for a weekend morning treat, Irene or I make crèpes. It’s a simple recipe.
And yet every time we pull out the cookbook, wherein Irene wrote the recipe ages ago to take with her on a weekend away, and plunk it on the kitchen counter. And I stare at it. Repeatedly. As I assemble the ingredients. All five of them.
And about an hour later, they’re made. And five minutes after that, they’re eaten.
So Irene commissioned some artwork from the fabulously talented and lovely Andrea Stokes to commemorate this running culinary in-joke and provide practical support for those weekend mornings. And here it is. And there’s a spot for it on the kitchen wall where despite the authentic coffee stains, I will be able to read the ingredients from twelve feet away.
I can’t stop chuckling. I love love love it.
Thanks too, to all my fabulous Facebook friends and family who wrote about a half a kilometre’s worth of birthday wall greetings. I’m chuffed.
