Toilet tales part three: the gasket at the bottom of the tank

I don’t think I seated it properly. At least I hope that’s where the water’s coming from now. The alternative explanation has a far worse solution.

I bought a flange extender and a wax gasket, put the whole mess together, bolted it down, put a new flushing mechanism in the toilet for good measure and put the tank back on.

I turned on the water. No spraying, no gushing of water out the sides or down through the hole in the ceiling below. Good news.

For as long as it lasted.

I noticed a little trickle of water coming down the back of the outside of the bowl. It started to puddle on the floor.

Maybe it’s temporary, I thought. Nope. By the time dinner had finished, drips of water were coming down through the ceiling.

Not good.

So I emptied the tank, undid the bolts, re-seated the tank and let a little water in for a test. We’ll see how dry things are in the morning. Wish me luck.
