How to lose popularity and still keep power
So there’s this EKOS poll out today that has the Tories and the Liberals statistically equal in terms of voter intention. It corroborates a similar poll out yesterday that suggests Harper’s decision to prorogue parliament does not sit well with people. Now that it seems to be restricting Canada’s ability to send relief to Haiti, I can’t see that getting any better.
The interesting thing about the EKOS poll is that Tory support has gone to the Liberals, mostly. How that happens given Michael Ignatieff’s dreadful performance as leader is beyond me, but the projected seat counts are interesting.
- Tories:
- 112
- Liberals:
- 107
- NDP:
- 33
- Bloc Quebecois:
- 53
It’s almost getting to the point where the Liberals and the NDP have enough support between them that they could form a coalition government on their own. No offense to the Bloc folks out there but I bet if the next coalition wasn’t “getting in bed with the separatists” it would have a lot more support than the last one.
But of course, this is all moot, because there’s no government to bring down because there’s no parliament because Stephen Harper prorogued it.
