My daughter’s hair smells of wood smoke
I am really excited. I gave Mallory a kiss when we got home today and noticed her hair smelled of wood smoke. See, she really liked camping.
We went for a couple of days with Chad Gaela, Rowan and Graham to Bon Echo Provincial Park she absolutely loved it.
We bailed a little early (too much rain, too cold) but the first thing she wanted to do was set up her play tent (she hasn’t used it since she was 18 months old) in the sunroom and go camping again.
It must be said, though, that of all the things she enjoyed about camping, she most emphatically liked playing with Gaela and Chad’s daughter Rowan, who’s close to Mallory’s age.
She took really well to sleeping in a tent. She cooked her own food – roasted marshmellows and hot dogs over a fire – and generally got to break all the food rules. What a thrill.

Last time I remember a family camping trip was with Louli and Emma. There was big storm and one of the lighting strikes so frightened Patrick and lit up the tent that we all heard Patrick scream “Emma’s on fire!” After we realized that Emma was not in fact on fire and all the excitement died down we all tried to sleep. By morning it had rained so much that most of our stuff was soaking wet. So we went home and gave up. When we got home we realized that the trash needed to be taken out and Patrick was a four year old eager to help so he took out a trash bag which it turned out was a really expensive sleeping bag which had been put in a garbage bag because it was wet. What a time. We haven’t gone camping since.
Take care
