Mallory had a shower this morning
Mallory had a shower this morning. She’s experienced showers before. When we tried her at swimming “lessons”. It didn’t go well. So naturally I was surprised to hear Mallory say she wanted to have a shower too.
Irene and I had been discussing which of us would shower and in what order.
“Really?” Irene asked, trying not to sound too surprised.
“Yes,” Mallory was almost emphatic. So Irene finished what she was doing, and off they went, trying not to make too big a deal of it. I stayed downstairs to clean up breakfast, expecting any second to hear a change of heart. I did hear some crying, but it was unrelated.
A few minutes later, I heard a call from the bathroom. It sounded a little frantic. They needed a face cloth. When I got there, Mallory was in Irene’s arms, but otherwise happy.
I got called back a few minutes later to help Mallory dry off. She’d soaped up, rinsed, and washed her hair. And she was beaming.
Could this be the beginning of a new, cleaner era? Mallory’s had an up and down (mostly down) relationship with baths. We don’t give them often enough as a result.
