Halloween: a study in contrast

The clips keep the fuzz from tickling her faceHalloween is quite a different affair in our new neighbourhood, compared to our old one.

For five years in Overbrook we would dutifully purchase bags of sugar product, a pumpkin, carve same and wait, porchlight blazing, for kids to come.

As often as not in vain. By the end of the evening we’d be craining our necks, trying to catch a glimpse of a costumed little person that we might – bags of candy in hand – run off in hot pursuit. Also in vain.

Compare and contrast with Old Ottawa South where the streets are jammed with little ghosts pirates star wars characters and the like as they navigate street after street of houses festooned with cobwebs tombstones and other appropriate paraphenalia, horror movie audio effects blaring form every door.

Mallory was dazzled. And cute.
