Why have kids
I apologize for the greeting card sentiment you are about to read, but I’m feeling overwhelmed by the love I feel for my daughter right now.
I was putting her to bed tonight and she, quite unprovoked, not coached or led on said “Daddy, I love you.†First time ever. I told her it was the best thing anyone has ever said to me.
It’s funny to think I spent most of my adult life not interested in having kids, and then being on the fence about it. And the moment she was born suddenly my life made sense. I was here to care for, clean, coach cuddle, feed, teach and support this tiny person.
And in return I was to spend all my days feeling the most profound, intense love I have ever felt. And that’s pretty much how it’s been.
Think back to that first love of your life. Those first few days, weeks or whatever, when you were head over heels, distracted, heart a twitter and all that. Now imagine that every day. And imagine that never going away.
This is what having a child is like – for me anyway.

Aw, that’s lovely. I wish that was what it was like for everyone.
