The end of diapers

Tonight, for the first night in her life, Mallory sleeps without diapers. Arguably, we should have done it weeks ago. She’s been dry in the morning for a couple of months, at least, and now on occasion gets me up in the middle of the night to go pee. So it’s past time.

Tonight is the night because we finally got around to buying a rubberized mattress cover, with terry cloth on one side so it’s not a totally hideous experience because still we can’t believe our daughter is so grown up.

She’s been diaper-free in the day time since she was about 20 months old. She speaks in sentences, tells stories, climbs ladders counts to ten – or rather, knows all the numbers – so I don’t know why it’s so hard for us to believe.

I look forward to the rest of our lives together, with each day bringing a new surprise and sense of amazement at what she can do.

No. We're putting in an offer on a house. We're playing offer tennis.
