Back on the bike
I biked to work today for the first time since my accident. I was very excited.
It wasn’t clear to me which was stiffer – my right hand or my front derailleur. I guess after about six weeks of inactivity it had seized up. I’ll go at it again with WD40 and an old toothbrush tomorrow in the hope of getting it loosened up. If not, it’s Cycos.
My hand, on the other hand (sorry – it was inevitable) is a bit more complicated. Doing my battery of exercises has given me a fair bit wider range of motion and at least enough strength to squeeze the brakes, but it’s still tender and after a short (4km to work) ride, it aches a bit.
But at least I’m mobile.
Other things I am now able to do:
- tie back my own hair
- floss
- type in double digit WPM
- shake hands – though this fills me with dread. I hope I don’t meet any big beefy guys who need to make an impression
I have a raft of medical appointments next week. The physiotherapist, the surgeon, massage. Hope I can keep them all straight.
