Metcalfe and Montpellier
96km on Sunday, 90 hilly kilometres on Monday. Good to try the back-to-back thing.
I usually put a day or so (often more like a week) between rides so that my legs can recover. But I will have no such luxury this weekend. So I figured it would be good to try to riding two days in a row.
The ride to Metcalfe was real ego boost. Very easy compared to the first times I did it this season. To Montpellier (where I am now) was also easy. A bit of unnerving traffic going through Gatineau, but Highway 148 has a gentle, downhill slope as you head east, and the tailwind had me cruising along at between 36 and 40km all the way to Thurso.
I headed north at Thurso, worrying about big nasty hills with signs warning trucks, but apart from the last 10km ish, there weren’t any serious ones.
So the RLCT is in two days. Ulp.
My total training kilometrage: 986 (not including approx 32km a week community).
Wish me luck.
