Not a good week for the Jungle

But never say never.

Before I left for Edmonton last week, my internet connection started dropping. Sometimes every few hours, some times every few minutes.

And when it dropped, the router would reconnect but it wouldn’t get my static IP address. Instead it would get assigned a dynamic one and all my sites would be invisible.

I went back and forth with Linksys and Magma on this and eventually figured I would try another router. Fortunately Mau had one lying around not in use.

I plugged it in, I set it up, it worked like a charm for two days with no dropped connections.

Then this morning happened. Some access server somewhere that Bell and Magma use to give people in my area DSL service blew up. We were down for hours.

Of course we like to believe this will never happen again. But given how crappy and utterly devoid of quality control your average end-user router is, and given that Bell is not perfect. I have to imagine at some point, this may recur.

But at least I figured out what the problem is. Now all I have to do is get Linksys to take the frigging router back. Again.
